Okay... here's a random one. Which of the major protagonists in "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil" plays no part in Lord of the Rings?

I have a copy in Tales from the Perilous Realm...

Is it either The Mewlips...or Princess Mee?

Oh, hello. This has been idle for some time. I think it's time to look up the answer...

Do you mean the poem or the book of that title? If the former, the answer must be the Badger-folk. If the latter... it could be almost anyone, as most of the poems stand alone and have different characters.

There's one from a less-known book, just because it's sitting next to me. What does "westra lage wegas rehtas, nu isti sa wraithas" mean? Some of you may know or be able to figure it out without reading this book.

Is it too hard? It's not a very good question. Who wants me to get a better one?

Well, I never do the language ones anyway, and I didn't even read Beowulf or Legend of Sigurd

I'll get something else, then, but it'll have to wait until I'm home.

It's from "Lost Road" isn't it? I read Tom Shippey fairly recently and he mentions it...

“a straight road lay westward, now it is bent”

Only on some things, Estel!

Okay...there's an ancient market town near me called Arundel...what's the link to Tolkien???

Hint: Shippey will help you with this, too, though you might not need it!

One important member of the Notion Club was named Arundel (last name Lowdham, I think), which is a form of Earendel?

So: Who got the brooch with a green gem from Galadriel in the early drafts for the LOTR?

I don't have my books with me, so I'll ask an easy one:

What was the inspiration for the Dead Marshes?
