Does anyone get a pop-up with all the code for a page on this board whenever they hit Control + u? I've never seen this happen before!

I'm on Mozilla Firefox.

Is it a Mozilla thing?

In IE, to see the HTML behind the page, you go View, Source.

Maybe it's the Mozilla shortcut to view the source code.
(Not at my home PC, don't have Mozilla here to check. :) )

Strangely, though, when I click "view source" here, nothing happens - the code doesn't show. (It does on most other pages though, and there's no harm in it - you can't change the page, you could just steal the code to build your own page).

As to the add: I haven't seen it, but I don't think we have influence on the ads here. I hardly get any ads with pictures though, mainly just the text ads at the top of the page.

It is the Firefox shortcut to view source. I just did it. Pretty cool.

I tested it as well, and that's just what happened. Well, you always learn something...

Thanks...I did it on accident so that's why I was a little surprised!

There is a groups of ads that have been added to the site where, when you click to accept the cookies, it takes you away from B77 and straight to the website of the advertiser.

I've been diverted from the board three times while posting today. The first time I thought I had just hit the wrong button because I wasn't paying close attention. But the second and third I definitely left B77 as a result of accepting the cookie.

I don't know if it is legal for advertisers to use their cookies as navigators, but it is one great big pain in the rear.

Don't accept cookies you have no interest in. You don't want any of that stuff on your computer.

TED, absolutely! I turn down all cookies as a matter of course, and only if it causes me problems navigating around the site I'm interested in do I go back and accept the cookies.

Jn, rejecting advertisers cookies doesn't affect your use of this board - you can safely ignore them.

Really? I thought I had to accept them or the board wouldn't work. I learn something new every day. :)

I'm going to clean my cache right now.

Jn, my Mac's browser (Safari) has a setting under Preferences where you can select "Only accept cookies from sites you navigate to," which means you never get cookies from advertisers. It seems to work like a charm. I've had other Mac browsers with that preference. I prefer it to turning cookies off.

(That's what I do too when on Safari. I think some other browsers also have that option but IE doesn't. Phoooey on IE! Never touch the stuff myself  )

IE does I believe...go to Tools, Internet options, and then privacy and you can choose the level depending on what type of cookies you'd like to accept.

IE isn't supported for Mac any more, so if that's a newer feature it's not available for Mac.

Safari's much better, anyway, as is Firefox on the Mac (and I assume it's better on the PC too).

Yup. I like Firefox so much better than IE. I try to only use it. The only time I can't is for Yahoo mail. None of the formatting or smileys show up on Firefox as yahoo doesn't support it yet.

Yup, IE offers all sorts of ways to bar cookies.

However, there's no need to switch cookies off - they can't do any harm to your PC!
On the contrary, I find it nice to have my sessions preserved, so I don't have to log in each time I open a page.

What is strange, though, is to be asked while surfing, whether to accept a cookie, liky Jny said - I've never had that! :scratch
Maybe it has to do with your settings (is it something like: "always ask me before accepting a cookie" or so?) or the OS or browser you use - so, unless it's the first, with the settings, I'd also advise not to accept any cookies when you are specifically asked to - that sounds a bit fishy to me.

Edit: this reminds me of something I'd like to ask of any PC experts here:
I recently downloaded Mozilla, but I don't like it as much as IE (it completely messes up navigation in the reply window, for example).
However, the bloody thing has made itself my "standard browser", so whenever I click a link, Mozilla opens automatically.
I just can't find an option to change my standard browser! :help:

In Explorer, click Tools, Internet Options. On the Programs Tab, tick the box that says "Internet Explorer should check to see it is the default browser"

After that the next time you run explorer it will ask you if you want it to be the default browser.

Incidentally, have you tried Firefox?

The box is ticked, Alatar! :(

I checked again, but it already was ticked when I looked around yesterday. I thought that having this box ticked must mean it is my standard browser, but it looks like Mozilla overrides that somehow.
In Mozilla, there's an option to select a standard browser, but it says "Mozilla already is your standard browser" and the option is deactivated. :rage:

Haven't tried Firefox yet, though I downloaded it together with Mozilla - what's so great about it (I thought it was basically the same as Mozilla)?

Firefox is extremely secure but is as fully featured as IE. In other words, you gain everything and lose nothing! It also has plugins for tabbed browsing and toolbars. Very nice indeed.

I'll install it as soon as I can then. :)

(I need to, anyway, as I'm fidgeting with creating a website, and I want to see what it looks like with different browsers. I just guess I have to make some room on my hard disk before I do. ;) )
