Got to see George R R Martin at a convention this weekend, showing clips of his miniseiries (which I hadn't seen due to lack of HBO), and discussing some of the details that went into each scene. Like having the wolf not shown in one scene, because every take, she licked the actresses hands instead ...

Just finished Hobb's Ship of Magic. Thanks for the recommendation! A great sea story, plus it looks at slavery and other versions of ownership or mastery of one person over another.

I've been reading about this with some incredulity, but it wasn't until today that I noticed from the news reports that he actually lives a few miles away from me. :Q Since I was hearing from you folks all over the world, and in my local news, it didn't occur to me that it really was a local story. ...

Many hours! And sleep deprivation. :P

I just ordered the 5th book on Amazon, with delivery in mid July. Finally... after a 6 year wait. I first read the series in 2005.

So... I just read the math in Lali's link, and I have to ask ...is this the Gregorian calendar, or the Jewish calendar, and wasn't there something about promising not to destroy the world again... something about a rainbow and a covenant....? Sorry, it's been a while since I read Genesis.

I've had the sleep paralysis but it seemed to be due to heavy blankets in my case. I guess my brain is not as creative when half awake.:D I used to "wake up" and find I couldn't move, so I'd close my eyes and try really hard to get up, and after a great deal of struggle I'd feel like I was...

If you want your daughters to have strong memories of watching movies with you, not necessarily good memories, mind you, do what I did and watch thrillers like Hitchcock's The Birds. =:)

Maria, try this link: http://www.origami-usa.org I used to belong to this organization. They have some simple diagrams for free, lots of more complicated ones in their bookstore and their Collection - spiral books made up of members' diagrams for each year's convention. I believe I read once that it is impossible to fold a piece of paper more than 7 times, no matter how large a piece you begin with. This is NOT origami, this is when you fold a piece in half, then half again, and so on. That's my contribution to this thread. The Mythbusters exploded that myth... wi...

The only thing that worked for me and my desire to grow citrus plants was to move to California. It's not just sunshine (I gave mine grow lights in the winter), it's mild humidity, real soil, and a lack of those pesky invertebrates (outdoors, the other invertebrates, birds and frogs keep the bugs do...

I saw a little nibble out of the edge, above the scudding clouds, at 10 PM, then went to bed. I've watched a total lunar eclipse before, and it was beautiful.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAZzCFPcLoo&feature=channel http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0944947/ A Game of Thrones is coming to HBO (wish I had HBO) with Sean Bean as Eddard Stark, who is definitely not whom I imagined Ned looked. But I suppose I could adapt. :D When I first heard about it, I won...

OK TW, here's your first assignment! Can you please Rangerize Ara-Anna and derange me? Then at your leisure you two can add Jude and take off Areanor and Tinwë. You may want to stagger the terms. I've already overstayed my welcome by a month. When I do this kind of thing, I log on as Administrator ...
