Aw, poor bunny. We are still colder than the norm but lovely spring weather. We did have three earthquakes in 20 minutes, 3-ish about 15-20 miles away. Things rattled for a few seconds. There was another across the bay earlier this week. It just gave the house a gentle but distinctive boink. With th...

My toaster oven is half-broken - the upper heating element burned out. I'm finding that this has possibilities. I can get toast that's crispy on one side but soft and warm on the other, perfect for peanut butter. And if I want a normal toast, I can flip it. And it heats frozen pizza nicely, without ...

Wouldn't that be too soft to use on the throat like that?

Maybe it's a flute.

Those flimsy folding umbrellas is what led to the rise in street crime. That, and not wearing hats.

We are back to hey ho, the wind and the rain.

I've told my neighbor to cut back the gd tree that's leaning over the fence. If it falls and knocks down the fence, he can pay for it himself. [emoji82]

Yes, the part about the ginger was the best. :D I am not a ginger, but I hate to think what it's like for people who sunburn even faster than I do.

To mark a year of Russian invasion in Ukraine, this absolute banger, a Ukrainian battle song performed by a Polish metal group. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zY2hzqBPToY The beginning of the video is from With Fire and Sword, a Ukrainian-Polish adaptation of a Polish epic, which I highly recommend. ...

I'm sure you are right, but I also suspect that once the transition is made, the new way would just become a new normal. I still want to know how Europe manages to pay a living wage, and still have restaurants serve better food, in larger portions, with good service, for the same or smaller price. I...

That last bit of logic baffles me. "If we were to pay enough to make up for tips, the prices would go up." Sure, but the cost of the meal won't, if most people are already tipping 20%. I'd really rather see the whole price upfront, and not the American custom of adding tips and tax at the ...

Nienna, yes, African violets. Although the little wild ones are also very sweet. Another undemanding house plant is Tradescantia (Spiderwort). It also propagates by cuttings. When I was a kid, they were very popular. We grew them in wall pots (suspended in macrame harness, of course) and draped them...

Violets are the easiest. You stick a leaf into a well drained pot, and you'll get a new plant.

I don't know about the freezing temperatures, but maybe if you swaddle it on the way to the car? How long is it going to be exposed?

Orchids supposedly like pots with cutouts, which expose their roots to the air. It's not like the ants couldn't get into a regular pot, though. On that train of thought - once I'm no longer a walking biohazard, I want to see if the garden center had violets. For some reason, I really want some in th...

I had one survive for years. We got it at a Trader Joe's, I think it was a Phalaenopsis. It lived on the windowsill in the bathroom behind the frosted glass, and I occasionally stuck a fertilizer stick into the pot. It was doing great, but then the ants got in and made an anthill in the pot. I could...
