That seems to have become the meme of the day in some corners of the internet. I've seen many horrible puns, and many more references that I have no clue about.

In principle I do not approve of puns. In practice, I usually laugh from safely behind my computer and avoid responding. But this time I'll admit it: it's a clever pun.

...Hi. Thank you for keeping the site going. I don't have an account on HoF. I've mostly ditched FB (explanation only if anyone's interested), and I don't think I ever had any of you guys on FB anyway. I'm just kinda unreliable here, especially since I joined a niche social media platform (or anothe...

More likely is burning firebreaks. But there would be air-dropped water for an actual fire. There's a helicopter named Elvis which is shared between Australia and America for fire season in each. Well, I'm not sure if Elvis is still doing it - maybe newer ones have come in. Not sure.

Yay for crops! Hope they come through! Canning equipment - it really depends what you want to can. Jam doesn't need water-bathing or pressure-canning: just pour hot jam into hot jars, close them immediately, and let them seal themselves. I like to sterilise the jars in the oven for that, because if ...

Sorry for dropping the ball. Hmm. This is difficult. Does it involve Gollum?

Sounds like Sam. Perhaps in the Scouring of the Shire, about going to see Lotho?

Oof. The reminder that no matter how good our technology, nature can still hit back. I hope your house and your sister's are OK, and that your sister gets power again soon. It sounds like already long enough that fridge and freezer contents may go bad. :(

I should have re-read it to realise I summarised too much. No, I just cycle short distances, and there were about a dozen polling places within comfortable cycling range. I took the helmet off and locked it up with my steelhorse when I went in to vote.

Then, I agree: why? Maybe they want to make intelligent bacteria... but again, why?

This might be too easy, but we'll see. Who referred to "the only king under the Mountain we have ever known"?

Single-digit in Celsius. Which it was an hour ago, but it's warmed up slightly now that it's the middle of the day. I wore a beanie under my helmet when I went to vote this morning.

It's always weird talking about the weather across hemispheres. Winter is just beginning to bite here. Well, not biting yet, really, but I'm wishing I could figure out why the heater's pilot light won't re-light after being off for summer.

(Does it guess easy? It must have a... oh wait, we already are. :) )

Sounds like a pert hobbit, but I can't think of the context.

Edit: I think it's in the Scouring of the Shire, and probably Sam. To Robin Smallburrow?

LOL! I know everyone here is great, or I wouldn't have even considered the conversations I was thinking of starting. I was actually going to post in ToE, not because it's exactly adult-only, but because I want it locked away where it can't be accidentally found by people I know IRL. But today is a g...

Technically I don't think species narrows it all that much - eliminates Dwarves, Ents, and Ainur. Oh, and animals. But I presume you mean it was another Hobbit, and I can't think of Bilbo or Frodo saying it, so I guess it would be Sam. Still not sure where.

I guess I came back here looking for a renewal of social interaction, but I don't even know how to start a conversation. I feel like an angsty teenager. (It doesn't help that I was a teenager when I joined, but I was an enthusiastic one back then, not an angsty one.) On the other hand, I should be t...

I have been wracking my brain and searching through the books, and I still can't find it. Rather surprising that it's not Gandalf; it sounds so like him. I'm guessing it's some major battle that had just begun, but it's none of the ones I've looked at.
