I agree with Maria! And you'll need to be able to train the other berries along the wall behind for support. You could always plant a few bedding annuals if you want some instant colour, whilst seeing how the fruit bushes fill out...

Ooh! Maybe the companion planting really did work??

A quick Google tells me that the soft fruits you mentioned are best planted in the Autumn through to next Spring so you should be able to find them in the shops then, I would have thought...

In an unrelated note, we had a minor inconvenience of our water supply being cut-off on Weds evening, but it was restored within an hour of us and our neighbours noticing, and looks like it was a leak/burst main down the road from us.

I assume you guys are talking about "African violets" not our native wild ones! My family have cultivated AVs for years, growing new plants from the leaves like Frelga says. You can even get little glass bottles for starting the root growth off in! My mum also has several orchids although ...
