It is unclear whether what's happening right now should be described as sleet, hail, or a thunderstorm. It's kinda all 3 at once, and also 60F in February.

The rain here has been of the unfrozen variety, which means the snow has mostly melted, which means I can walk my sled-dog descendant again. The time off has not made her more cooperative. :suspicious:

As long as the power stays on, I don't really mind weather like this. It's the endless cold gray drizzle of sprinter that gets to me.

Baffling. What's the new mandated temperature? Is it too cold? It sounds like it's just a blanket "5F lower than it was before" for every building. I don't know exactly what thermostat settings they use, but for the office buildings, I expect it will translate to something in the 63-67 ra...

Got a notice from HR this morning saying the gas utility has ordered them to immediately reduce temperatures in all buildings by 5F until further notice because they're worried about supply levels. This has become something of regular occurrence, but it's just baffling to me: -The 2020 supply chain ...

Huh. Just yesterday I was thinking “it’s only October, and we’ve already had TWO days of snow!”

Yup. My part of Michigan didn’t hit 90 (32.2C) once in July, and based on forecasts, it may not happen in August either.
Yesterday snuck one by us and beat forecasts to hit 95. Hottest day of the summer so far, and may manage to hang on to that title (though September is always a weird month).

Speaking of spam, if you thought ancient religion was weird, note that modern civilization has reached the "receiving prophecies from fruit via email" stage:

They're saying the mystery gas is sulfur dioxide: https://www.southbendtribune.com/story/news/2023/06/26/rotten-egg-smell-rolls-through-northern-indiana-and-southwest-michigan/70356719007/ Which is very smelly but not too dangerous, but might mean that the rain we're (finally) getting today is acid ...

It's wild to think that going to the bottom of the ocean might actually be even more dangerous then going to outer space!
Someone pointed out that a spaceship has to deal with a pressure differential of a bit less than 1 atmosphere. A sub visiting the Titanic has to withstand 400.

Classical engineering focuses hard on getting things right the first time. Measure twice, cut once. Software engineering reversed that paradigm. Compared to measuring its correctness, cutting software is practically free! Not sure if something will work? Just punch it in, compile, and find out! Goin...

Tragically, that transfor...

Hm. My brain autocompleted the word tulip when it anticipated typing bulb, but we don't actually have any tulips, which I now see are toxic to dogs. We do have daffodils, though, which are also bad. She's fine so whatever she was chewing on didn't hurt her, but now I'm going to be worried about it...

Good advice; will give it a try. I'll also add that even though I knew perfectly well that puppies can be trouble, I didn't have "will dig up the tulip bulbs and eat them as soon as the snow melts*" on my mental con list.
