More Mechanical Work!!

Now that the Admin name change has been ratified we need to adapt the charter accordingly.

I do have all the articles on my hard drive and can go through and do a 'change all' but it will still require text-to-test comparison, and replacement of "an" with "a" in many, many places because Rangers does not start with a vowel. :P

And, I do think we need one additional sentence at the beginning of Article 2, ¶1 which says something like ....

Rangers are the Administrators of board77

... because the title of the Article itself is going to change, and the meaning of "Rangers" will not be obvious to n00bs.

All handbooks have to be updated, as well as all articles because the term Administrator is used in just about every article except the first.

So ... I shall begin this job, but I would like a proofreader to work with me. I will do a text-to-text comparison before changing anything, to make sure my computer version matches the version posted in the Actual Document thread (not sure I updates everywhere every time an update was required). And then after I do the 'change all' I would like someone to compare the new text to the existing text in Actual Document so far and make sure they still match except for the name change and the change of impersonal articles (an, a). I think the easiest way to do it would be to email the new text to someone and let them do a word-by-word. Volunteers?

Isn't that just the most tedious job you can imagine? Bwahahahahahaha

Jn :cheers

Actually Jny *cough*

The Charter text as we have it on Geocities already has all the text changed. :halo: clickety for index page
Easy to copy from there ;)

Also, Article 3 - see clickety
Quote:
¶1: Number of Administrators/Rangers and Terms of Office

• a) We have five to seven administrators (called 'Rangers'), depending on the needs of the board at the time. They serve three-month terms and are selected from among the members who are eligible and have volunteered.

etc.
Basically what I've done is copy the text from your thread Actual document so far and then changed all the Administrator to Ranger. So now you can just copy back. :)

Actually - I just double checked. Of course there are still a few 'lingerers' in there

However, copying it and pasting it into word and then running a search and replace with should do the trick pretty fast for those last stragglers. I'll run it tomorrow morning and upload again. That will safe you some headaches :D

eeeee, Alandriel, that's great. But I think we still need to go word by word because "Administrator" takes "an" whereas "Ranger" takes "a" and that can't be a universal change. Or did you already go word by word and do the changes?

Did you make the change in all articles or just Article 3?

Handbooks?

We also need to do:

Stickies in the Jury Room and Bike Racks

List of Administrators in the Welcome forum

I'll try to think where else there might be an official reference to Administrators.

Not Handbooks - since we're not all clear for those.

But I've done it on all the pages so far uploaded, which is the whole charter. I have to change stuff tomorrow anyway (re new ratification dates) and will run it through the search/replace one more time to find the last stragglers. You'll probably have my clear by the time you log in tomorrow :)

I did go word for word actually when I did it (all articles). So the an Administrator is changed to 'a Ranger'. But - there are a few hiccups... I only remembered now that I can do it witch a serach/replace with. Will do it tomorrow morning 1st thing :)

Re- the stickies... the Rangers here are at it. There were a few posts re that in Looking for help in welcome

I just had a quick squizz at the document Alandriel linked to. There are at least two cases where "administrator" hasn't been changed to "Ranger" ... see paragraph G of section 3.

In any case I don't think it will hurt to go through all the Ranger related stuff carefully again. I'm still willing to do this.

Alandriel, that's fabulous. blows on the blessings of the Universe to make them float in Alandriel's direction

I think that the Handbooks, except for Mayor, are done. I will go ahead and edit them for the name change.

If you have time Faramond, run it through and if then you could email me the lot that would be fab. On the other hand... I also don't mind running it, only not now.... it's late over here and my concentration is fried

I'll do it ... though I can't right at this exact moment. Sometime in the next eight hours or so, maybe sooner.

Well, I'm having a look at article 3 now, by finding and replacing "admin" with "#.....#" and looking at each case separately. (This particular find and replace makes it easy to spot all of them.)

Question: The "admin panel" is referred to three times. Do we need to keep this name, or should it be called the "Ranger panel"?

Similar question - there is reference in the Handbook to "the Administrator Forum." Is that a subforum within Forum Management, or another way of saying Forum Management? If it is the title of a forum, will that be changed?

Poor Alandriel, trying to get a cup of coffee! Coffee sounds great. I'm going to brew a pot myself right about now. :cheers

Jn

Edit: also, I found reference to an Admin FAQ ... somewhere in the admin forum?

Edit: OK - Handbook for Rangers (Administrators) is done and double-checked, but I'll wait to hear whether the names of "Admin Forum" and Admin FAQ" will be changed before replacing the online document.

Jny, I think that depends on whether the reference is to Forum Management, which is the forum you all can see, or to "Sensitive Admin Information" (where I think we plan to store warnings etc?).
That's all there is (ok, plus a "deleted threads forum") in the Board Administration part of the board. :)

Not sure what to do with the name of that one - maybe we could just change it to "Sensitive Information"?
("Sensitive Ranger Information" sounds a bit daft, don't you think? ;) )

Oh, I don't know, some people thought that sensitive Ranger was kinda sexeh in the films.

Rather than call it the Administrator Forum, since it's really neither, maybe it should be "Forum Management" or "the Rangers' subforum."

Ok - Jury handbook updated. The online copy is fixed, too.

And I've been moving all the little glitchy things I find into the agenda thread so we won't forget about them when it comes times to go through everything for consistency. Some of them, we won't, you know, have answers until the remaining articles are written ... so, the notes are just there in the agenda for when the time comes.

Hobby and other Ranger Dudez and Ranger Babez, if you are going to change the forum name, let me know what you decide to call them. I won't update the online Ranger Handbook until you've renamed the forum.

Where is that Admin FAQ thread? Let me click on Alandriel's link and find out where it goes. Be right back.

Edit: OK, that's in Forum Management. Do you want to change the thread title to Ranger FAQ? Seems logical.

I'm fine with Sensitive Information.
