*thwacks Meneltarma for patronisingness* No worries, I'm still not convinced that was even the word I was looking for. :P

Oh, and as far as frumpy cardigans are concerned... it's a toss-up between the tartan waistcoat and a sleeveless maroon jumper which I'm trying to turn into a v-neck. What do you think? Bearing in mind that if I don't wear the waistcoat I still have a tartan scarf I can wear, and the waistcoat won't hide my boobies so well.

I've been making wings... :D

The sleeveless maroon sounds more aziraphalesque. Maybe you could acquire a flaming sword as well?

I thought so too (great word!) It's just it's going to be a lot of work getting it to fit and look right. I picked up the tartan in a charity shop because, well, "Tartan is stylish". :D

*sigh* More work. I did think I might be Aziraphale nearer the start of GO- he's lost the sword, but he could be carrying The Nice and Accurate Prophecies and maybe a thermos of cocoa. I could convert a knackered old book (we have plenty of the right sort) with a fake frontispiece with a bit of caligraphy. I kind of don't want to steal my friend's thunder- she's been making a lush sword for her costume (Raphael from Soul Calibur, IIRC) and besides, I always wondered how much Aziraphale liked being associated with scary firey weaponry.

I don't know. It's a good idea, and one I had briefly entertained, but do you reckon it would be better with the accessories above?

Also in the costume:

-Beige trousers (ironed down the front)
-White formal shirt
-Black tie
-Glasses (probably frames only)
-Socks and leather sandles?
-My everyday afghan coat- a lot of fanart seems to put Aziraphale in beige or fluffy coats, and mine is practicaly identical to the Sanna Lutonnen version (elfwood). Plus, the slightly mixed-era feel of the whole costume seemed quite Aziraphale. So even if it's not what you'd immediately think of, I think it could work.

Right now my hair seems pretty much right- shortish but floppy, pale red-blonde. His hair would probably be blonder, but I didn't think it was worth dying it or anything. I'm thinking of using a bit of wax and stuff to try and keep my fringe back- I douby Aziraphale would have a fringe.

It's quite fun trying to portray a character for whom there's no definative image!

FTR, Max has her whole outfit sorted now, and Crowley is going to be in a long leather jacket- kind of Aragorn meets Hells Angels, with dark glasses and hopefuly (if it's not wet) feet painted with scales.

Hee! This is going to be great! :D

You. Will. Take. Pictures.

Socks and leather sandals is perfect! :D As is book and thermos. "Tartan is stylish" is one of the greatest quotes ever (though the British Eurovision group dancing in hell is probably the best...oh, and beebop), but you can still wear the scarf, I suppose. Unless it clashes horribly with the jumper.

In other and less amusing news, I've written a paper for the university lit. journal. This edition is supposed to focus on religion in contemporary literature, and a large portion of my paper is about Omnianism. :D (There's also a goodish bit on Pullman)

OMG Pip that sounds like so much fun!!!! :D Mel's right....You. Will. Take. Pictures. And post them here, of course ;) I found this great picture of Aziraphale that totally captures his character: http://photobucket.com/albums/v230/pret ... covich.jpg

Mel, that paper sounds like fun. I could give you a ton of books that would be perfect for that. Omnianisn is an excellent example to use, actually, caue Pratchett parodies everything, and personally i think Omnianism is a perfectly distorted image of most religions.

An author you might want to check out is David Eddings....his the Elenium trilogy has some interesting points on religion.

Why would that be a problem? ;)

*makes a mental note to take pictures*

I'd be interested in reading the article, if you have it about. :)

Peeg, when I get home (currently in my ECDL class) I'll have to root through my computer and find some of my favorite GO fanarts. I have a Sanna Lutonenn pic on my folder right now actually- Aziraphale and Crowley, Spike from Cowboy Bebop (that word again :P) and Vash and Wolfwood from Trigun. Aziraphale and Crowley are pretty animeish, to fit with the style of the other characters, and it makes me want to squeal Aziraphale wa kawaii desu! (only I won't, because I'm not sure if those are the words I'm after either :P).

Following are the best the GO fanart I've come across recently (I'm a compulsive image hoarder :P)...

[ img ]
The folder-pic I mentioned earlier. How strange to see three of your favorite completely unconected things in one glompable fanart!

[ img ]
The Bentley

[ img ]
Crowley and Aziraphale at the beach

[ img ]
More Luotonen... did I mention she also does a good Pippin? :P

***Slight Slash Alert***

[ img ]
Aw. I wasn't sure if I liked this at first, but... aw. :)

[ img ]
I saved this because I found it mildly disturbing... mostly because of their expressions rather than the theme. Ick!

***End Slight Slash Alert***

And just to finish up with... Ryo and Dee from FAKE... anybody else see the resemblance I've been insisting is there?

[ img ]

Only Aziraphale probably wouldn't turn round and deck Crowley right after that. :damnfunny:

I suppose I can join in here now since Ags got me started on Discworld. I've only finished one so far...Mort. On Guards, Guards! at the moment.

:D

Great books, from what I've read so far.

Guards! Guards! is one of my favorites. I love Vimes' line when he steps out to threaten the angry mob with a swamp dragon (don't look at me, I can't remember what he said :P)

I've c/ped this from the theme month thread. I got about two hours sleep last night, and *that* was on the floor being hit and elbowed by my gently farting friends. :P
Quote:
I'm reporting for duty a day late following a wicked Haloween party. Everybody who came was nice, and everyone tried really hard with their costumes. (Except maybe Alaric, he was a fairy only then he freaked out and nicked a white mask from Max's house in case anyone recognised him wearing make up. He kept licking the inside of the mask. It was gross).

I've got some construction photos from the wings Max designed- we went as the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley from Good Omens. There's no definative image of those two, so we had quite a lot of fun making the costumes.

[ img ]
The basic idea was to nick some chickenwire off Harriet, our token farmer, cover it in old tights and glue feathers to it. Which is exactly what we did. :P Here's the metal base with the legs of my tights twisted on to the sharp bits.

[ img ]
Here's the base all covered in tights. Feathers were everywhere. :Q

[ img ]
Here they are propped up on the futon. You can see the ribbon I used to secure them hanging down in the middle.

[ img ]
From right to left; that's Katy as the swordsman Raphael from Soul Calibur II; Rose as Miss Havisham (admittedly an excuse to wear a wedding dress); Jade as a transexual nun; Harriet as a knight (Sir Knight, knight of The Realm) and Max as Crowley.

[ img ]
Right to left again, Miss Havisham, transexual nun, Sir Knight, Crowley; me dressed as Aziraphale, clutching "The Nife and Accurate Prophecief..." protectively; Alaric the fairy who refuses to come out of the closet.

I wish I could have got some better photos. These were taken by my mum in the kitchen last night when she came by trick or treating.

My vows are fulfilled.

I guess I'll keep talking to myself...I've amassed 6 more since Christmas. Soul Music, Sourcery, Lords and Ladies, Thief of Time, Monstrous Regiment, and The Last Continent. Loooots of reading to do. :Q

Still reading Hogfather.

And I think I'll cut the line here. Three posts in a row. :P

Which one was it? :D:D:D

Rune, r&r! Which one is your favorite so far? Let's talk characters! :P Sorry to let you post on your own for so long. It was just... disturbing, being told the "Aziraphale" look suits me.
Looking back... I think the coat was too much now, but it's such a comfy coat! So warm and fluffy. I just think the pink flowers stretch the 'male' thing a bit.

I didn't get Thud! for Christmas. Mum couldn't remember if she'd bought and wrapped it already or not. Still, she said to me if I didn't get it under the tree she'd buy it for me anyway. But the wait is killing me! :Q

BTW, have any of you taken the Discworld personality test on Quizilla? And any guesses who I got? (I wasn't too surprised actually, but I doubt anyone will get it right...)

Favorite? Oi...I dunno. :P Mort will always hold a special place since it was the first one I read. :P Guards! Guards! was good too...as was Small Gods. I can't piiiick. Wait until I read more for that. :D

As for characters, one of my favorites of those has to be DEATH. Very entertaining.
