You'll probably get to see it before me, then! Let me know your impressions.

I too read A Wrinkle in Time back in Grade 5. I've since heard that there were a few sequels, but I never checked them out. Do you know anything about them?

Honestly, I don't know. The only way to know is to try. :)
It appealed to me as a child, but I have to be in the right mood to re-read any of the Anne of Green Gables books as an adult. Even if I do, I inevitably skip over the descriptions of Anne's fantasy world (fairies - the sweet sort rather than the mythical kind, raptures about the souls of trees and sunsets and the like). And in the later books, there's a lot of focus on the cute affairs of various children affiliated with Anne. I'm sure my husband would be bored to tears.

An easy way to find out if it might appeal:

Yes, I've read them, but it has been a long time. My vague remembrance is that they are not as captivating as the first book, but they are good. I wonder if I'd have a different impression as an adult. For example, would I like them better as an adult? My list is already kind of long, but I'll keep it in mind to add to my list. I have a reading challenge going for myself because I was not pleased with how few books I read last year. I set a modest goal of 25 books for 2017. I also made a list for myself because I often get mired down in "I don't know what I want to read" whininess.

So far, I'm doing well. I think I've read 9 this year. I'm currently on my 10th. And 11th.

I've rarely liked a children's book better as an adult, but I've certainly seen them differently. For instance, in the Anne of Green Gables books, I can see how Anne's constant prattling about her opinions would sometimes be annoying to the adults. And some of the characters that were pretty much background noise to me as a young girl, like Marilla, really stand out to me now that I'm older.

Netflix is going to be calling the series "Anne with an 'E'".

Netflix viewers will get to see it starting 12 May. I'll have to wait for the DVD.

Looking forward to it!

I'm two episodes behind on American Gods, so Anne may have to wait until I catch up.

The promotional clips look amazing. Most characters are exactly as I imagined. Except I thought Mr. Nancy should be older and the Technical Boy should be fat. But since the author appears to be deeply involved and he is happy, who am I to nitpick.

The Technical boy has been updated because the stereotypical image of the "Fat Kid in Basement" no longer represents the internet like it did 15 years ago. Gaiman is happy with the update.

Oh, interesting. Although the Technical Boy was always always, in my mind, an image of a rich kid. But dot coms don't produce millionaires like they used to.

Oh, I love those!

I just finished the first episode in Anne with an E. Excellent! I thoroughly loved it, even with the darker elements. It has a much more realistic feel to it. (I just hope there are no darker flashbacks than the ones I've already seen.)

I decided to tackle the Emily series, and now am in the middle of Emily of New Moon.

You know how her letters to her dead father are quoted in full, along with all the spelling errors she makes? I laughed when I read this passage:
Emily, writing about the men of Whyther Grange wrote:
I don't like any of them I've seen very much, but they seem to me a good deal like other people. Jim is the best of them but impident.
Did she mean impudent or impotent? Is she just repeating something she heard the adults mention? :D

Okay, I've read further, and Jim is described as "impudent". So there's that mystery solved.

"Impotent" woulda been more funny, though.

So how was the rest of the Anne series?

I'm #54 in line for the DVD from my library. They have 26 copies. So it could be a year before I get to see it.

I never did watch the rest! :Q I need to fix that!

Also, I only read 21 books in 2017. I have set myself the goal of 25 again for 2018. I think I'll be able to do it this year. Part of my hangup last year was that I like to read before I fall asleep, but I didn't want to read in bed with Craig because he was already asleep by the time I was ready for bed. It would just be awkward if I woke him up, so I am on my own now and can read whenever I want. Now, to get back that discipline for reading....

Why set yourself a numerical minimum? How is reading a couple of dozen little books better than reading several very long books that take the same amount of time? Quality vs. quantity, I say!
