because I was asked by two different people here --- thats why ... is it the answser or the very un-PC nature of the answer that bothers you? The fact that you are posting in the Film forum about a film you haven't seen and aren't interested in seeing just so can get off a boorish rant - yeah, that...

Excuse me - but this is the Film Forum of this board. And this is a thread about a particular film. You don't want to watch this particular film, fine.

Why post on a thread about the film with a pointless rant about vomit?

Again WTF/Again HBP Mr. Director (I really cant remember his name right now  ) Mike Newell. It would have taken you 3 seconds to find out on Google, if you really can't remember. Actually I would have liked to have seen Winky. I would have liked to have seen Winky slowly tortured to death ...

What Di said.

I can understand and sympathise with Tolkien purists - although I have repented of my former ways - but Harry Potter purists!

I just can't comprehend why you think that when the first two movies seemed to have jumped from the pages of the books line for line Quite. They weren't films; they were staged readings of the books. Pedestrian. And schmaltzy. Flying dementors? That has got to be the most rediculous thing I've ever...

Very enjoyable film.

As an adaptation, not as good as PoA. Newell filmed the book, keeping fluff and minor characters (Rita, anyone?); but Cuaron filmed the story.

If you want to keep the 17 years, Toshie, then Alatar's suggestion is as good as any. A director could use a match cut: show a child Sam alongside the Gaffer, then, after a dissolve or some other device, show a grown-up Sam working alongside an elderly Gaffer; exactly the same shot composition. The ...

A brief review I've posted on a couple of boards: ================================ I saw the film on Wednesday. I dunno about “gritty”. “Grungey” more like. The film-makers have knocked the Bennets down a few rungs on the social scale. They are more like a class we only hear of, but hardly s...

Several years on TORC have cured me of any "s/he doesn't look like I imagined" stuff.

I loved PoA and am eagerly anticipating GoF. All the adult actors are terrific and the kids are .....OK. They're only kids.

I don't care what people look like as long as they can act.

That TERRY GILLIAM was an option to direct the first film, got really excited at the prospect, and Rowling wanted him..... and WB went for that pedestrian hack Columbus.

Not a great "might have been" but a "might have been" which would have been interesting and imaginative.

I apologise if I caused any offence Queen B, it wasn't my intention :( There is nothing to apologize for Kez. :) I just prefer fairly objective discussion and the PJ fans incline towards subjective discussion: it is a matter of taste. It is also a matter of taste that I prefer films directed in the...

I think you are misunderstandi me Kez. All close-ups do not constitute shouting, but PJ's close-ups (IMO) are way over the top and therefore do constitute shouting. He rams the camera into his actors faces and and holds for a long time while one of the lesser actors uses the same narrow range of exp...

If memory serves, SPR (which I don't much care for: too sentimental) has only two notable action sequences: the battles which more-or-less book end the film. There is far less action than in PJ's 2nd and 3rd films. Anyway, I don't know what themes SPR is supposed to convey, other than War Is Hell. I...

With regard to the pros and cons of "restrained" or "raucous" (or "vigorous" if you will :)) films, I would suggest that the former are a more satisfactory tool for a director who wants to examine themes and ideas. 2001 is a well-nigh perfect example of such a film. An ...

Close ups are akin to underlining/capitalization/embolding. So to me, PJ's films are LIKE THIS! IN YER FACE! NO CALMNESS! NO RESTRAINT! SHOUT! YELL! HOLLER! SCREAM! KILL! SHRIEK! ... for 3 hours. Eventually - actually quite quickly - the close ups close their impact, as my writing wo...

Mostly I agree with Sem, except I would rate Kubrick higher and Chaplin lower. My attitude to Jackson depends on what I have watched lately. I watched Alexander a few days ago on DVD and it was terrible. Stone didn't seem to have a clue what he was doing. I felt grateful for PJ's dedication and pass...

Best thread in ages. PJ is a modernized, MTV-age version of Leone BINGO!!!!!!!! But Leone, although sometimes over the top, is always in control of his material. And his last films, OUATI the West and OUATI America, are Kubrick-like in their rigour. He also develops his themes - regret, love, death ...

I'll third that. So what is going on with Tonks? I just don't buy the love-lorn maiden explanation for her being outside the RoR and touching her arm. And what was she doing in Hogsmeade when Harry fell over Mundungus' stash? She seemed pretty cool about that. Has Harry misread the situation (again)...
